Vishu Sadya

Well, i cannot call it the authentic kerala Sadya (an elaborate vegetarian meal served among hindus during auspicious days), since the number of dishes usually come around 20-24.
Due to our exam season, both of us (me and my husband) reduced our sadya into a mini Sadya with just few dishes.

The major attraction was the banana leaf. I do not know why but eating in banana leaf gives the effect of being in Kerala. It brings back memories of the sumptous lunch /feast when we go to our marriages. I was amazed to see the leaves for sale at our local HEB. It seems the tropical areas of Mexico and Central America uses them for "Tamales".

Have a look at this site to read about banana leaf tamales..
http://elise.com/recipes/archives/005183vegetarian_banana_leaf_tamales.php. The tamale reminded me of one of Kerala's sweet dish "Ela Ada". Sometimes i wonder at the similarities of Mexican and Kerala/Indian cuisine. The use of plantains , dry red chillies, tortilla(chappathi like bread), use of spices etc. Another reason to love Texas
